A seed phrase (or recovery phrase) is a set of 12–24 words generated when you create a self-custody crypto wallet. It's the master backup of your wallet — enter it into any compatible wallet and you restore full access to your funds. Anyone who has your seed phrase controls your crypto, so it must be kept secret and offline.
How it works
The words come from a standard list (BIP-39) and encode the master key from which all your wallet's addresses and private keys are derived. That's why a single phrase can restore your whole wallet.
Why it matters
